Rooted in a legacy of horsemanship three generations strong, Equestrian Noire is our attempt to pour back into our community our love, passion and appreciation of the equestrian lifestyle through leather goods that respect and honor the centuries-old craft of leather working.

The journey started with me repairing horse tack and appreciating the feel, smell and craftsmanship of well made saddles and bridles and the realization that this leather was different in important ways from the leather goods available in the mall and department stores.

This rabbit hole lead to an understanding that full-grain leather (not genuine leather) made all the difference and we committed, despite the costs, to make all our products from 100 % full-grain leather so that each bag showcases our commitment to craftsmanship and timeless elegance.

WHY IS FULL GRAIN LEATHER SO DESIRABLE?


Full-grain leather is considered the best and highest-quality type of leather for several reasons, mainly due to its durability, natural appearance, and aging properties.


Full-grain leather is made from the Complete animal hide, which includes all the natural grain. It is not sanded, buffed, or corrected to remove imperfections. This preserves the hide’s full strength and unique texture.

Because it retains the entire grain layer, full-grain leather is stronger and more durable than other types (like top-grain or genuine leather). The natural fibers in the grain make it resistant to tearing, stretching, and wear, it can last decades or even a lifetime with proper care.

Over time, full-grain leather develops a patina, a soft, glossy sheen that enhances its appearance with age and use. This gives it a distinct, vintage character that many people value in high-end bags, shoes, and furniture.

The natural pores of the hide remain intact, allowing the leather to breathe. This makes full-grain leather more comfortable in products like shoes, jackets, and upholstery, as it adjusts to temperature and moisture better than processed leathers.
